Cadillac Wants a CLA-Fighter

Recently, Cadillac's new head has been eyeing a car below the current ATS. One that would allow Cadillac to boost sales in the growing entry-level tier of the lux market where cars like the Mercedes CLA, Audi A3. These cars are based on front-drive platforms which had us having nightmares that Johan de Nysschen might be thinking a Chevy Cruze based Cadillac might be appealing. However, he is currently looking and taking Cadillac's Alpha platform down a notch to fill the void. This could give Cadillac a strong differentiator in this space against the German front-drive (often with AWD systems) competition.

“The cost and packaging advantages of front-wheel dive are appealing. But Cadillac is the challenger brand”, explained de Nysschen. “We want to build our reputation as a purveyor of high-performance driver’s cars, so it’s better that we do it off a rear-wheel drive architecture.”

Smaller than ATS and rear-drive? Sounds promising Mr de Nysschen.
